Rockmart
Middle School FBLA members saw the rewards of their efforts when they
visited the new Rockmart City Complex and viewed the Georgia State Seal
and Rockmart
City Seal displayed in the new City Courthouse. Students sold Krispy
Kreme Donuts to raise money to purchase the seals. Chief Keith Sorrells
of the Rockmart City Police coordinated the project with chapter members. On
the day of the field trip, Judge Vickie Atkins
and Chief Sorrells spoke with the group about how to become a lawyer,
the process a person goes through when arrested and going to court, the duties of police officers, and how cameras are used to help
policemen make cases. The field trip ended with a
tour of the new police department followed by breakfast. This
project helped students understand the local judicial process and gave
them a sense of ownership by providing the seals for the courthouse.
The seals will be displayed in the courthouse for
years to come, and Rockmart MS FBLA students will take pride in knowing
they had a part in Rockmart history.
