Part 1

SERVICE ACTIVITIES (Complete 3 activities. The first one is required.)

Activity 1
Required. Prepare posters to display in the school encourage individuals to "Go Green" (i.e. reduce electricity, walk to work instead of drive, etc.) Upload a copy of one of the posters.

Activity 2
Donate energy efficient light bulbs to senior citizens. Prepare and upload an article for Tomorrow’s Business Leader. Include at least one digital or scanned photo.

Activity 3
Organize a school or community clean-up. Upload a completed copy of the project report form and include at least one digital or scanned photo.

Activity 4
Sponsor a school-wide toy and game recycle project. Donate the old toys and games to a homeless shelter or to younger children who can use them. Prepare and upload a press released. Include at least one digital or scanned photo.

Activity 5
Rid litter from our roadways. Use the weekend of Earth Day to clear roadways, highways, and neighborhood streets of litter. Upload a completed copy of the project report form.

Activity 6
Plant a tree or flowers. Spruce up your schoolyard or local park to keep the planet healthy. Upload a scanned or digital photo and a 100 word summary on the benefits of this project.


EDUCATION (Complete 3 activities. The first one is required.)

Activity 7
Required. Have officers research Earth Day at http://www.earthday.gov/ and present their findings at a local chapter meeting. Upload an outline of the presentation and a copy of the agenda from the meeting in which the presentation took place.

Activity 8
Bring in a speaker to a chapter meeting to raise awareness about the environment. Upload a copy of a thank you letter written in proper business format.

Activity 9
Arrange for chapter members to teach a lesson about air pollution to elementary students. Have the children create posters on the topic. Upload an outline of the lesson plan, at least one scanned photo of the activity, and a copy of one of the posters the children created.

Activity 10
Green up daily PA Announcements. Have FBLA members read different environmental facts over the morning announcements during the week of Earth Day. Upload a copy of each of the daily announcements.

Activity 11
• Sponsor a "Go Green" assembly for the school which could include a guest speaker, information displays, and sketches/plays about the environment. Upload a copy of a thank you letter to the principal and a copy of a program.

Activity 12
Hold a school art exhibit. Display photography, sculptures, and various art pieces that focus on the environment. Upload a copy of the program and a press release.


PROGRESS (Complete 3 activities. The first one is required.)

Activity 13
Required. Celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2011. Upload an outline of the activities and include a press release with at least one digital or scanned photo.

Activity 14
Organize "Walking/Wheeling Wednesdays", which encourages walking or riding a bike to school. Upload a completed copy of the project report form.

Activity 15
Wear green and/or brown. Have chapter members dress in environmental colors for the day. Have them create badges that say, "Think Tree". Upload a copy of a press release a scanned copy of one of the badges.

Activity 16
Have FBLA chapter members write an "individual environmental promise" i.e. (turn lights off when not in room) on a leaf cut-out. Display cut-outs on a bulletin board. Upload a scanned or digital copy of the bulletin board and include a copy of one member’s promise.

Activity 17
Contact a local grocery store and ask if FBLA members can decorate paper grocery bags with "Go Green Tips and Slogans". Scan and upload a copy of one of the decorated bags.

Activity 18
Have members used recycled materials to build a life-sized sculpture on a designated day. When the event is over, have volunteers form lines and recycle the materials. Upload a scanned or digital photo and an article for Tomorrow’s Business Leader.


Part 2

For this second part of this project chapters are plan and conduct a “Go Green Project” of their choice (they may either expand upon one of the activities in Part I or plan another project) and following the completion of the project, prepare a 500 word summary. Projects must include both a service and an educational component and must promote environmental awareness.

Please attach the project report to this document.

Report Guidelines:

1. The report must be keyed in the order of the questions listed in the Report Format section.
2. The report must describe an activity concerning the environment that was conducted during the school year.
3. The report should be no more than five pages including any appendices.

Report Format:

The report will consist of questions and answers. Key the following questions followed by comments and descriptions.

1. Describe the chapter’s “Go Green” project.
2. State the purpose and the goals of the project. The purpose and goals should be keyed as bullets.
3. Describe how the chapter chose this project as a “Go Green” environmental activity.
4. Describe the steps that chapter members used to plan and develop the project.
5. Describe how the chapter completed the project.
6. Describe why this project is unique.
7. Explain the benefits and impact this project had on the school or community.
8. Explain and give evidence of how the project was publicized by attaching at least one article or flyer.
9. You may incorporate pictures into the report and must include at least one scanned photo.
